Alison and Jacob rarely watch TV, so this is more of a personal post.
Last week, I was excited to watch "Hollywood Week" on American Idol. This is where the remaining contestants perform in groups after staying up all night to rehearse - I am not one who LOVES Reality TV drama. I like to watch games and competitions - especially the singing and talent ones. However, the show decided to highlight more of the dramatic, behind-the-scenes footage (aka. reality tears, smack-downs and back stories) than the actual performances.
When I turned the TV off on Thursday night, I was tired and disappointed -
Disappointed that I couldn't get those two evenings of my life back.
Disappointed that I sat on the couch and did not do anything productive for the past two nights.
Oh, and did I mention that we don't have DVR or TiVo? Yup... I had to sit through all the commercials to watch bad TV.
So, I made the decision to turn the TV off for a week I started on Sunday, and I have to say it has been so nice. I have been going to bed earlier, waking up refreshed and I already finished a 300-page novel. If Matt wants to watch TV after the kids are in bed, I just go to the other room to read or write in my journal.
I'll keep you updated on how the week progresses, but I can honestly admit that I do not miss it.
Until the Oscars...
